Before you spend anything
Does it need replacing, or just a repair?
We will tell you when a tear-out is not worth it. Talking you into one you do not need is how a contractor gets one job instead of a referral.
A repair can hold
If all of these are true, replacing it is money you do not need to spend yet.
- Hairline cracks you can barely catch a fingernail in
- The slab is still level, with no lifted or sunken panels
- Nothing growing underneath it
- Water still runs away from the house
It needs replacing
Any one of these means the problem is under the slab, and patching the top will not reach it.
- Cracks wide enough to fit a coin
- Panels that have lifted or dropped, leaving a lip to trip on
- A surface that is flaking, pitting or crumbling on top
- Water running back toward your foundation
- Patches that keep failing in the same spot
Not sure which one you are looking at? Text us a photo at (951) 880-7573 and we will tell you straight.
The schedule
How long your driveway is out of use
- Day 1
Break out and haul
The old slab comes up and goes straight onto the truck. Dump fees are in your price.
- Day 2
Fix what is underneath
Roots cut back, soft spots dug out, grading corrected, then a new base rock layer compacted.
- Day 3
Forms and pour
Forms set the shape and the slope, reinforcement goes in, concrete is placed, finished and jointed.
- Day 7
Park on it
Walk on it after a day or two. Hold off on heavy vehicles for about a month.
That is a typical two-car driveway. Size, weather and access move it, and you get the real schedule at your estimate before anything starts.

Common questions
Straight answers
Can you pour over my old concrete?
We do not recommend it. Whatever cracked or moved the old slab does the same to the new layer within a year or two. Taking it out is the only way to fix the base underneath.
Do you haul the old concrete away?
Yes. Breaking it out, loading it, hauling it and the dump fees are all in the price. You are not left with a pile in the driveway.
Can you remove concrete without replacing it?
Yes. If you are turning a slab into lawn or turf, we take the concrete out and install the grass or turf in its place, on the same job.
Can you replace just one section?
Often, yes. If the rest of the slab is sound we cut out and replace the bad panels. The new section will be a slightly different colour than the concrete around it, and it evens out over a few months.
How long is my driveway out of use?
Plan on about a week after the pour before you park on it. You can usually walk on it after a day or two. We give you the exact schedule at the estimate.
Will the new slab crack like the old one?
Not the same way. Most failed slabs failed at the base, not the concrete. We fix roots, soft spots and grading before we pour, then cut control joints so any movement follows the joints.
Taking concrete out for good?
A lot of homeowners take out a slab they never use and put grass or turf in its place. We do both halves of that job, so the lawn sits flush with whatever concrete stays.
