Natural grass & landscaping

Real grass, on ground that was prepped first.

Sod is the easy part. The lawn lives or dies on what happens before it is laid — the old grass out, the yard graded, the soil broken up so roots have somewhere to go. Chino, Chino Hills, Eastvale and Corona.

  • Graded and prepped before any sod lands
  • Watering schedule left with you
  • Free, no-obligation estimates

A lawn rolled out over hard dirt is green for three weeks and patchy by the second summer.

Sod and landscaping

What we do

01

New sod lawns

Bare lot, dirt yard or a new build where the landscaping was never finished. We grade it, prep the soil and lay the whole lawn in a day.

02

Lawn replacement

The old grass and weeds come out to the root, the ground is re-graded, and new sod goes down on clean soil. This is most of what we do.

03

Grading and soil prep

Low spots filled, high spots cut and the soil loosened so water spreads instead of pooling by the house. The part nobody sees and the part that decides how the lawn turns out.

04

Landscaping around the lawn

Clean-up, borders, rock, and the edging between the grass and your concrete. Tell us what you have in mind at the estimate and we will price it with the lawn.

Which sod

Three grasses, and they are not interchangeable

Picking the wrong one is the most common reason a new lawn thins out in year two.

Most common here

Tall fescue

Green all twelve months in the Inland Empire, which is why most homeowners here end up with it. It takes part shade better than the others and has the softest blade. It drinks more than Bermuda through August.

Sun needed
Water use
Foot traffic
Softness
Lowest water

Bermuda

The toughest of the three and the cheapest to water. The trade is full sun only and a tan, dormant lawn through the winter. If the yard is a play yard that bakes all day, this is the one.

Sun needed
Water use
Foot traffic
Softness
Best in shade

St. Augustine

Handles shade better than any warm-season grass, so it works under trees and along a shaded fence line. Broad blade, and it does not want heavy foot traffic every day.

At the estimate we tell you which of these your yard can actually keep alive — sun, shade, slope and how the family uses it — not whichever one looks best on the pallet.

After we leave

The first thirty days

New sod fails in the first two weeks or it never fails at all. Here is exactly what the yard needs.

Week 1

Keep it soaking

Short cycles several times a day. The sod cannot pull water out of the soil yet, so you are watering the pieces themselves. Stay off it.

Week 2

Back off slowly

Fewer, longer cycles. Roots start reaching down into the soil we prepped. Light foot traffic is fine by the end of the week.

Week 3

First mow

Tug a corner. If it holds, cut the top third with a sharp blade and leave the clippings. Never scalp a new lawn.

Week 4

Normal lawn

Deep watering a few mornings a week instead of daily. First feed goes down around day 30. From here it is just a lawn.

We leave this schedule with you in writing the day we finish, and you can call us during the first month if anything looks off.

Straight answer

Sod or turf?

We install both, so we have no reason to push you either way. This is roughly how it shakes out.

What moves the number

AreaSquare footage of the lawn, and how cut-up the shape is.
Tear-outHow much old grass, weed and root has to come out first.
GradingWhether the yard needs leveling or just a clean-up.
Sod typeFescue, Bermuda or St. Augustine. The sod itself is a real part of the number.
ExtrasBorders, rock, edging or concrete going in on the same visit.

Sod usually comes in under turf to install. The trade is water and mowing for the life of the lawn, and we will give you both numbers at the estimate.

Service area

Where we lay sod

01

Chino

New sod lawns and lawn replacements, including the newer neighborhoods in The Preserve.

02

Chino Hills

Sloped yards need the grading done right so water soaks in instead of running off. We handle that before any sod goes down.

03

Eastvale

Newer homes where the builder's lawn has thinned out or the backyard was never finished.

04

Corona

Sod, grading and yard cleanup for Corona homeowners.

Real grass, laid on soil that has been graded and prepped so the lawn takes and stays even. Somewhere close by? Call (951) 880-7573 and ask.

Before you call

Common questions

How often do I water new sod?

Keep it wet for the first two weeks. Out here that usually means several short cycles a day while it is hot, then you back off as the roots take hold. We leave you a watering schedule the day we finish.

When can I mow it?

Usually two to three weeks in. Tug a corner of a piece. If it does not lift, the roots have gone into the soil and you can cut it. Take the top third only on the first mow.

Will I see the seams?

Not once it knits. We lay the pieces in staggered rows, butt the edges tight and roll the lawn so the sod makes full contact with the soil. Gaps show because the sod was laid loose or dried out in the first week.

What is the best time of year to lay sod?

Any month, as long as it gets water. Fall and spring are easiest because the heat is not fighting you. Summer installs take more water in those first two weeks, not more money.

Can you fix just the dead parts?

Sometimes. If the lawn is more than about half gone, patching costs nearly as much as replacing it and you end up with two different shades of grass. We will tell you straight which one you are looking at.

Can I buy the sod myself?

Yes. We offer labor-only installation if you want to order the sod and have it delivered. Tell us the day it lands and we will be there to lay it.
